On the morning of May 24th, participants of "China-FAO South-South Cooperation Capacity Building Workshop", led by the Center of International Cooperation Service, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and accompanied by the Industry Division of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, visited SAAS. The relevant person of the Research Management Division, SAAS received the guests.

This workshop was the first China-FAO South-South Cooperation project in Latin American region which came to China. It consisted of 7 agricultural supervisors from government departments, heads of research institutions, and key project leaders from Latin American countries such as Costa Rica, Guyana, Ecuador, Chile, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, and Honduras. The project theme is "Digital Agriculture Development and Food System Transformation". The Research Management Division, in conjunction with prof. Wang Yunsheng from the Information Research Institute of Science and Technology and prof. Liu Zaochang from Shanghai Agrobiological Gene Center, introduced the research and application of smart agricultural technology, as well as the promotion of water-saving and drought-resistant rice in China and Africa. Mr. Travis, senior extension officer from the Guyana Rice Development Board, reported on the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization project being advanced in Guyana - the application of drone technology in rice growth analysis. Subsequently, the participants discussed technical details with experts of SAAS.

SAAS has always adhered to the concept of open cooperation. In recent years, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, we have actively participated in agricultural cooperation projects with developing countries, contributing together to the sustainable development of global agriculture.
