China 2022 Methane Summit: Low-Carbon Agriculture and Sustainable Development under Climate Change was held on June 30. Researcher Dr. Zhou Sheng from the Eco-environment Protection Research Institute, SAAS, was invited to the online summit and delivered a special presentation.

Methane emission reduction has received more and more attention around the world. During the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) of the “United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change”, China and the United States issued the "Joint Glasgow Declaration on Enhancing Climate Action in the 2020s". Meanwhile, 105 countries signed the "Global Methane Pledge". China Methane Summit is an annual international event on methane governance initiated in 2020 by the Beijing Representative Office of the US Environmental Protection Association under the guidance of the Department of Climate Change of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. The China 2022 Methane Summit was composed of a series of seminars, with topics including: agricultural greenhouse gas emission reduction paths; waste methane management and control; Sino-US methane management and control policy dialogue; research on investment and financing models of methane emission reduction technologies.

Well-known domestic industry managers, research teams and experts such as Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, Peking University, Zhejiang University, China Agricultural University, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, as well as many enterprises participated in the conference and exchanged views on the current situation and development trend of agricultural greenhouse gas emissions. Researcher Dr. Zhou Sheng delivered a special presentation titled as "Research and Prospect of Rice Field Methane Efficient Emission Reduction Technology", introducing the importance of rice field methane emission reduction under the carbon peak and carbon neutral vision. Dr. Zhou also introduced the latest research progress of SAAS in high efficiency methane emissions reduction technology in rice fields, which aroused significant attention and sophisticated discussion of experts and scholars at the summit.
