On Oct. 13^th, 2021 “International Training Workshop on Edible & Medicinal Mushroom Production Technology” hosted by the Institute of Edible Fungi of SAAS, sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology started online in Shanghai. The opening ceremony was held in the conference room of the Edible Fungi Institute, which was broadcast live online through the tencent video conferencing application. Zhao Zhihui, vice president of SAAS, Zhang Jinsong, director of the Edible Fungi Institute, Bao Dapeng, secretary of the Edible Fungi Institute, Mao Wenjun, tutor of the workshop and Wu Kai from the research administration division attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was chairded by secretary Bao.

Vice president Zhao expressed his greetings to all the trainees who could be able to participate in this training workshop since the COVID-19 pandemic was still not ended. It was an honor to hold this training workshop this year by providing online courses, which was a significant attempt to build a human community with a shared agricultural future, said Zhao. After that, director Zhang made a brief introduction of the Edible Fungi Institute and Mao Wenjun introduced the basic information about the workshop.

The Institute of Edible Fungi of SAAS has abundant experiences in providing such training courses as it has hosted 7 workshops since 2009, and served more than 110 trainees from over 20 countries. This 2021 workshop has 32 students from 8 countries including Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, India, Thailand, North Korea, Sri Lanka and Kenya. The students would learn and understand the basic knowledge and theories of edible fungi, practical cultivation techniques, the development of edible fungi industry in China etc. during the 20-day online workshop.
