Horticultural Research Institute
The Horticultural Research Institute is the only professional research institute engaged in the research of breeding and cultivation techniques of new varieties of vegetables and melons in Shanghai. It is one of the top 100 national institutes of agricultural research and development.
Through the hard work of several generations, our vegetable and melon breeders have developed various breeding methods through heterosis breeding, including green vegetables, cabbage, broccoli, tomato, cucumber, eggplant, sweet pepper, watermelon, melon, pumpkin, edamame and specialty vegetables. The Institute mainly engaged in the selection and cultivation of new varieties of vegetables and melons, breeding of featured horticultural crops, seed processing technology, etc. It is the key laboratory of facility horticultural technology of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, Shanghai National Vegetable Improvement Sub-center, Shanghai Green Leaf Vegetable industry technology system, national bulk vegetable industry technology system Shanghai test station, Shanghai green leaf vegetable breeding center technical support unit.
The institute's major strengths are in the reserach fields of vegetable (tomato,Cucumber, eggplant, Pakchoi, pepper, cabbage, broccoli,cauliflower and lettuce) and melon (hami meln,watermenlo,melon), specifically in terms of germplasm collection and utilization; breeding of elite varieties with high yield and quality traits; molecular breeding technologies;genetic mechanism; as well as research on plant-type, intelligent and three-dimensional horticultural crop breeding model.
